No, Intro Scuba Dives are designed for beginners, and no previous diving experience is required. We do require basic swimming skills.
We recommend bringing swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and your sense of adventure. We provide all the necessary scuba equipment. Please avoid bringing valuables or precious jewelry/watches. Don’t forget to bring some cash if you would like to show your appreciation for your instructors in the form of tips!
Yes, your safety is of utmost importance to us! Our certified instructors will provide thorough training in shallow water and closely supervise your dive to prioritize your safety and enjoyment. Please consult your doctor before scuba diving.
No, for safety we do not allow uncertified divers to bring a GoPro, nor is your instructor allowed to use them during the dive. Ask us about our underwater photography/videography packages dedicated to capturing your memories!

DIVE FLAG
Yes, local regulations require all Maui scuba divers and free divers to carry a dive flag.
Maui Dive flags must measure at least 12in x 12in.
When ascending and descending, dive flags must be clearly visible above the water. This is why the dive flags we rent here at Aloha Maui Diving all have a float to assist with flag visibility.
You may incur a fine of up to $1000 in the environmental court. Compared to a $10 dive flag rental fee, it seems like a fairly unnecessary way to ruin your Maui dive trip by flaunting the rules. Dive with a flag and enjoy your worry-free experience!
Diving in Maui requires divers to ascend and descend within 50 feet of a dive flag. Some divers choose to carry the flag with them the whole time, while others choose to anchor it at their ascent/descent point. This depends largely on the dive site conditions and layout.

PHOTOS
It absolutely is possible to immortalize your scuba experiences with photos! We offer a range of scuba photography and videography packages to go with your dives. Just let us know when you call up to book your dives in Maui.
We would love to help you with your scuba pictures! Your instructor can bring a camera along. With your guided dives, your guide will take photos throughout the dive of you and your family or friends as well as the marine animals and landscapes around. We even try to get some video reels sometimes for your social media scuba posts!
We can also do photos for you on our “Intro to Diving” or “Discover Scuba Diving” scuba experiences! The instructor is unable to carry a camera due to safety and liability issues. As safety is always our first priority, we will have to arrange for a separate photographer. This allows the instructor’s focus to be on their divers, ensuring the best and safest dive possible. This in turn, will help you have the most fun and enjoyment possible.
Aloha Maui Diving likes to provide at least 15 professional quality, edited photos of your Maui diving holiday. However, very regularly our photographers tend to send more than that and sometimes even a little video that can easily fit right into your social media profiles. This, of course, depends on conditions and safety limitations.
Please allow 3-5 business days to receive the link to the drive that your photos will be stored in. We then ask that you download your photos within a month due to storage limitations. The generous time limit also allows you to avoid stress on downloading as you travel back home.

Aloha Maui Diving has a plethora of some of the best rental equipment on Maui with a full rental locker that is fully prepared for your Maui diving holiday.
Our fins range from children’s small to adults sized 14, and come with dive boots. As the very best of Maui diving is from shore, boots are necessary for a comfortable dive experience.
We have a full range of high quality wetsuits from children’s small to adult’s 4XL in both full or shorty options.
We also carry both men’s and women’s wetsuits to suit different body types.
Aloha Maui Diving has high end BCDs (buoyancy compensator devices) with comfortable integrated weight pockets, designed for ease and comfort. We carry the Zeagle brand in shop.
We love our Atomic Z2 regulators. Each regulator set comes with a first stage, second stage and octo, as well as a computer. Going with quality scuba gear is the best way to enjoy your Maui dives!
We also rent scuba and snorkel masks for all face sizes. Narrow or wide faces, children’s faces, and everything in between, we boast a large range of mask shapes to accommodate your unique facial structure. Let us help you get fitted for your perfect scuba mask!
We also rent snorkels to complete your scuba dive equipment package rental. We carry all three styles of snorkels available: Fully-Dry, Semi-Dry, and Tube. Our friendly Maui dive shop staff are happy to guide you in selecting the best snorkel style for your needs.
To dive on Maui you must have a dive flag according to the local regulations of the Department of Land and Natural Resources. We rent the necessary dive flags to keep you in compliance on your Maui diving trip.
Absolutely, we carry scuba weights in our rental section. Working with the Ocean Defenders Alliance, we sponsor tanks for ocean cleanups and some of our rental lead weights are made from reclaimed lead. Recycled fishing weights are repurposed to make your cool scuba weights. Ask us about our skull-shaped weights!

SCUBA DIVING CERTIFICATION COURSES
We offer a full range of certification courses that you can take on your Maui diving holiday, including Open Water, Advanced scuba certifications, Rescue scuba certifications, Specialty certifications, and Dive Master courses.
We are an SSI shop with PADI Instructors on staff as well as Avelo instructors. So we are able to certify divers in all three scuba diving agencies: SSI, PADI, and Avelo.
We can certify you in practically any certification level here at your favorite Maui dive shop. As an SSI student you can earn your Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water, Stress and Rescue and even Dive Master plus a bunch of specialties!
For PADI, we can offer Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue, Dive Master and most of the other PADI specialties.. With Avelo, we can certify you as a Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD).
This first level course only takes 2 days. However, there are 2 full days of scuba training from 8am- 4pm each day. Since we try to offer most courses in a “vacation time frame”, we require that all of our students do all of their academic course work online; similar to university-style online courses. This will allow the student instant feedback and explanation on any areas in which the student needs additional information and allow the instructor to review it online before your dives begin.
Besides Dive Master, every other scuba diving certification course only takes 2 days, not including the online learning.
The Dive Master course is a month of full-time training. If you are living on Maui and training in your spare time, it is realistically 3-6 months of training based upon your availability.
The Open Water Diver course is the longest of e-Learning time frames at about 8 hours while all the rest besides Dive Master can be completed in about 4-5 hours.

WETSUITS
We provide all gear for free on our awesome guided shore dives in Maui. You simply have to provide us with your height and weight and our experienced dive professionals will be able to fit you for a wetsuit.
If you are renting gear from us, we have a variety of wetsuits sizes for rent. We also provide advance reservations for scuba gear rentals to make your Maui dive trip convenient!
Our scuba wetsuits run from Kids size S all the way up to an Adult’s size 4XL. We have both full/long wetsuits and shorty wetsuits available.
Temperatures in the Maui ocean range from a toasty 83F in the Summer to an easy 72F in the Winter.
Our wetsuits generally run 3mm. We have some 5mm sizes as well for those of you who run cold, and jackets for layering or for those who prefer a little more freedom.
After trying many different brands, the ones we have found work the best for scuba diving in Maui are the Seac short and long wetsuits and the Akona AQ-Tec fleece-lined jackets.
Our scuba retail and rental sections both have a range of scuba accessories to please the discerning scuba diver. We offer head-to-toe protection, from beanies, head bands, and hoods to jackets and boots.
