Maui is a wonderful place for your first scuba diving experience. Its calm conditions, warm water, shallow reefs, and abundant marine life make the island especially welcoming to beginner divers.

One of Maui’s greatest advantages is its easy shore diving. Instead of jumping or rolling from a boat—and climbing back aboard afterward—divers can simply walk into the ocean from the beach. Shore diving is also ideal for people who are prone to seasickness because it eliminates the rocky boat ride.

Many Maui shore dives begin in water as shallow as three feet. This provides a secure area where beginners can practice essential scuba skills before gradually descending to explore the reef. Most beginner shore dives average approximately 20 to 30 feet in depth.
